Asking God to Reveal Himself to Unbelievers

We need boldness to go and proclaim the gospel in a dark world, but we also need to remember that God will work to bring people to Himself as we obey Him. We need Him to reveal Himself to people through our words and deeds, through His actions in the world, in their spirits, and so on.

When the believers gathered in Acts 4 to ask for boldness to speak the word in the midst of ongoing threats, they also asked God to continue revealing Himself.

“while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” Acts 4:30

The believers prayed that God would go with them and reveal Himself through signs and wonders, including miraculous healings.

God’s healing may be physical, as was often the case in Acts and the gospels, but may also occur in people’s hearts as He frees them from things like fear, addiction, greed, and so on.

Signs and wonders may look different today than they did thousands of years ago, but we still need ways to point unbelieving eyes to God. We not only need for God to work wonders, but also for our eyes to be opened to see.

And of course, even though the signs and wonders themselves may look different today, we still need to pray.

Father, I ask that you reveal yourself through signs and wonders in today’s world, and give me eyes to see and words to use them to speak of you.
